Intercomprehension in
Language Teacher Education
  Project description

The objective of this project is to educate language teachers in such a way as to enable them to exploit intercomprehension between languages in the teaching/learning process of a new language, developing awareness of the importance of exploiting the linguistic/communicative and learning competence of learners.

The project will be designed for language teacher educators and language teachers in initial and continuous training in several European countries, and will span a three-year period (September 1998-August 2001). During this period, several training sessions will be held for supervisors of schools and universities which will focus on language transfer and cultural contact, experimentation of consciencialization activities in schools with teacher trainees and supervisors, and presentation and discussion of results of different experiments carried out by the teams involved with a view to the elaboration of teaching modules.

These modules, which may be used in other teacher training contexts, will be disseminated among the different centres involved and a compilation of the results of the work carried out will be published in at least two languages involved in the project.
